# Standing Orders, Dispensing Programs and an SDS on Every Product

> Uncap builds janitorial and sanitation supply ecommerce on Shopify for distributors serving building service contractors, schools, healthcare groups and facilities. Standing orders generate from the account's own order guide as editable drafts, dispensing programs are priced as programs with consumables gated to the installed dispensers, and the current safety data sheet revision sits on the product and travels with the order. Delivery day, route and cutoff are enforced at checkout using Shopify's delivery customization capability, and contract pricing stays in the ERP through Uncap Connect. Recurring ordering and SDS handling are scoped and priced as builds. Uncap's published jan-san builds are Sanitaire and Microfiber Wholesale.

## The challenge

**Where a generic storefront breaks for jan-san distribution**

Jan-san is a consumables business wearing a catalog.

| | Factor | Generic storefront setup | What a jan-san distributor needs |

| --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Dispensers | A dispenser sold as a product. | Program pricing, with the account locked to the consumables its dispensers take. |
| Concentrates | A gallon of concentrate priced as a gallon. | Ready-to-use equivalent and cost per diluted gallon beside the pack. |
| Safety data sheets | Buried in a documents page. | The current revision attached to the product and carried with the order. |
| Route delivery | An order after cutoff that appears to promise tomorrow. | Delivery day, route and cutoff enforced before the order is placed. |
| Standing orders | Not digitized, so the reorder happens by phone. | Generated from the account's own consumption as an editable draft. |
| Contract pricing | A public price list. | BSC contracts, district bids and group agreements, per item per account. |

Jan-san is a consumables business wearing a catalog. The catalog matters far less than the reorder, and almost every platform gets that backwards.

**The dispenser is the contract, not the product.** You place the dispensers, often free of charge, and you earn the revenue on the chemical and the paper that runs through them for the next three years. That means pricing is program pricing, the account is locked to compatible consumables, and a storefront that treats the dispenser as a product for sale has misunderstood the business model entirely.

**Concentrates break the unit of measure.** A gallon of concentrate at a dilution ratio is not a gallon of anything the buyer uses. They think in ready-to-use equivalent, cost per diluted gallon, or cost per cleanable square foot. The arithmetic between your SKU and their budget line is the sale.

**SDS is an obligation with a search volume attached.** Safety data sheets are a legal requirement at the point of use, and buyers look for them constantly. "SDS sheets" draws roughly 8,100 US searches a month at a cost per click of $5.67. Most distributor sites bury them in a documents page rather than attaching the current revision to the product and to the order.

**Route delivery is a promise made at checkout.** An account sits on a route, the route runs on a day, and a cutoff governs what makes the truck. An order accepted after cutoff that appears to promise tomorrow is a complaint you have already paid for.

**Standing orders are the revenue and nobody has digitized them.** The recurring order is the whole relationship. It should generate itself from the account's own consumption, arrive as something the buyer can adjust, and respect the same route rules as anything else.

**Contract pricing is the price.** BSC contracts, school district bids, GPO agreements and healthcare group pricing are negotiated per item per account. A public price list is not merely unhelpful here, it is actively wrong.

## The Uncap solution

**How a standing consumable order runs**

A building service contractor does not shop. They consume.

### 1. Order guide, Generated from consumption

Recurring orders generate from the account's order guide on its own schedule.
- Arrives as an editable draft, not a charge
- Consumables gated to the installed dispensers
- Program rates applied to chemistry and paper

### 2. Product, SDS with the product

The current SDS revision sits on the product page and travels with the order.
- Contract prices rendered from the ERP
- Dilution ratios and cost per diluted gallon shown

### 3. Checkout, Route and cutoff enforced

Delivery day, cutoff, branch and route are configured per account.
- After cutoff, the next real delivery date is shown
- Same rules for standing and manual orders

**What the machine says, including where it contradicted itself.**

Asked twice on 15 September 2026 with gpt-5.4 and web search enabled how a jan-san distributor should build for dispensing programs, SDS access, route delivery and standing orders, the model put a competing platform first in both runs and treated a second as the heavier enterprise option. Shopify was ranked third in one run and did not appear at all in the other.

What reproduced across both runs was narrower and more useful than the ranking: route and delivery logic belongs to the ERP and dispatch layer rather than to the storefront. In the first run's words, "For a distributor, route scheduling typically belongs in the ERP/dispatch/route system."

**What did not reproduce, and it is worth being straight about.** On standing orders the two runs disagreed outright. The first said route scheduling and standing orders "are implemented through API/ERP customization rather than as core out-of-the-box features." The second listed standing-order style buying as a native strength of the platform it recommended. One run also reported finding no native SDS module anywhere, and the other was cut off before it reached the question. So the honest position is that recurring ordering and SDS handling are unresolved in the testing, and neither should be presented to you as settled.

Neither run named an implementation agency. Neither mentioned Uncap.

**Where that leaves the build.** The parts that are genuinely uncertain are scoped and priced as builds rather than claimed. The parts that are not uncertain are the account structure, the contract pricing and the ERP connection, and those are where this actually gets won.

**Standing orders built on the account's own consumption.** [Uncap Portal](/products/portal) provides multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, with contract pricing, MOQs and account-tier visibility carried per account. Recurring orders generate from the account's order guide on its own schedule and arrive as an editable draft rather than a charge, subject to the same route and cutoff rules as a manual order. This is implementation work here and, on the evidence above, very probably everywhere.

**Route and cutoff enforced at checkout.** Delivery day, cutoff, branch and route are configured per account and enforced using Shopify's delivery customization capability. That mechanism was identified in separate research for hospitality supply as the one platform-specific advantage surfaced for route based distribution, and it applies directly here.

**Dispensing programs priced as programs.** Dispenser placement, compatible consumable gating, program rates and equipment-on-loan records are configured at the account level, so what a BSC sees is the chemistry their installed dispensers actually take, at the rate their program agreed.

**SDS attached to the product.** The current revision sits on the product page and travels with the order, rather than living in a documents library that a site supervisor has to go looking for during an inspection.

**Contract pricing from the system that owns it.** [Uncap Connect](/products/connect) syncs ERP pricing, inventory, customer accounts and orders directly to Shopify. [Uncap Quotes](/products/quotes) runs the full configure, price, quote process inside the Shopify admin, with configurable products on rules-based pricing, tiered discount approvals and margin guardrails, revisions that keep the version history, and an approved quote converting to a Shopify order in one click, which is what an annual bid cycle needs to leave behind.

**Named proof, and it is genuinely in this trade.** Uncap built [Sanitaire](/work/sanitaire), which has operated for nearly 50 years making commercial cleaning equipment such as carpet extractors and backpack vacuums, sold through a B2B distributor model. Uncap migrated the legacy platform to Shopify Plus, kept the customer data intact and integrated the ERP. Christiane Gevorkyan, Senior Manager, on the engagement: "I have extensive experience working in web development and have dealt with several third-party vendors. Without a doubt, working with Uncap has been the best experience I've had to date. They delivered the project before the deadline, and it was just an exceptionally smooth experience."

Uncap also built [Microfiber Wholesale](/work/microfiberwholesale), a 75 year old family owned business supplying premium cleaning and janitorial products to households, retailers and businesses, migrated from a legacy platform to Shopify Plus.

### 09 · ERP, ERP integration

Twelve published integrations syncing pricing, inventory, accounts and orders.

**Standing consumable orders.** Recurring orders generated from the account's order guide on its own schedule, delivered as an editable draft, subject to the same route and cutoff rules as any other order.

**Dispensing program management.** Dispenser placement records, compatible consumable gating by installed equipment, program pricing, and equipment-on-loan tracked against the account.

**Concentrate and dilution handling.** Dilution ratios, ready-to-use equivalents and cost per diluted gallon shown alongside the pack, so the buyer can compare against the budget line they actually manage.

**SDS on the product and on the order.** Current revision attached to the product page and carried with the order, rather than filed in a separate documents library.

**Route and cutoff enforcement.** Delivery day, cutoff time, branch and route configured per account and enforced at checkout using Shopify's delivery customization capability.

**Contract pricing from the ERP.** BSC contracts, district bids and group agreements held where they are negotiated and rendered at checkout, never maintained twice.

**Multi-site account structure.** Multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, with contract pricing, MOQs and account-tier visibility carried per account, for contractors ordering across many buildings under one agreement.

**Bid and renewal quoting.** Configure, price and quote inside the Shopify admin, with rules-based pricing, tiered discount approvals and revisions that keep the version history across the bid cycle.

## Why Uncap

**Two named jan-san builds, one with an attributed quote.** Sanitaire and Microfiber Wholesale are published builds in this trade.

**The uncertain parts are named as uncertain.** The prompt testing contradicted itself on recurring ordering and could not settle SDS. Rather than pick the flattering half, this page scopes both as builds. You will see them in a price, not in a feature list.

**Route logic uses a real platform mechanism.** Shopify's delivery customization capability is the specific hook route and cutoff enforcement needs, and it is the one platform-specific advantage the research surfaced for route based distribution.

**Scoped before it is built.** The Uncap [Blueprint](https://www.uncap.com/blueprint) maps the account and contract structure, dispensing program model, recurring order logic, route rules and ERP integration before any build begins. You leave with an architecture you can take to any agency.

## Ready to talk

Bring one BSC contract and one week of route schedules. Those two documents describe this build better than a requirements list will, because between them they contain the price, the cadence and the promise.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Shopify handle standing consumable orders for BSC accounts?

Recurring ordering is built on top of the account structure rather than taken off a shelf, and the research behind this page could not settle whether any platform does it natively. Asked twice on 15 September 2026 with gpt-5.4 and web search enabled, one run said route scheduling and standing orders "are implemented through API/ERP customization rather than as core out-of-the-box features" and the other listed standing-order style buying as a native strength of a different platform. Those two disagree, so this page treats recurring ordering as a scoped build and prices it that way.

### How are chemical dispensing programs handled?

As programs, not products. Dispenser placements are recorded against the account, consumables are gated to the equipment actually installed at that site, and program rates apply to the chemistry and paper running through them. Equipment on loan is tracked against the account rather than sold through the cart.

### Where do safety data sheets live?

On the product and on the order. The current revision is attached to the product page and travels with the order rather than sitting in a separate documents library. "SDS sheets" draws about 8,100 US searches a month, which tells you how often somebody is looking for one and how poorly most distributor sites serve that moment.

### Can delivery routes and cutoff times be enforced?

Yes, at checkout. Delivery day, cutoff time, branch and route are configured per account using Shopify's delivery customization capability, so an order placed after cutoff shows the next real delivery date for that account instead of a date nobody intended to honor.

### How is contract pricing handled?

It stays in the ERP where it is negotiated and is rendered at checkout through Uncap Connect. BSC contracts, school district bids and group agreements are item level and account specific, so nothing is maintained in two places. Uncap Quotes covers the bid and renewal cycle itself, with approval routing and revisions that keep the version history.

### Can a contractor order for many buildings under one agreement?

Yes. Multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, with contract pricing, MOQs and account-tier visibility carried per account, let each site order its own consumables against the contract without a central buyer approving every case of liners.

### Do you have janitorial clients?

Two, both published. Sanitaire has operated for nearly 50 years making commercial cleaning equipment sold through a B2B distributor model, and Uncap migrated it to Shopify Plus with its ERP integrated. Microfiber Wholesale is a 75 year old family owned janitorial and cleaning supply business migrated to Shopify Plus. Sanitaire carries an attributed customer quote from Christiane Gevorkyan, Senior Manager.

### What is the difference between this page and the safety page?

The buyer's problem. This page is consumables, programs, routes and contracts. Safety and PPE is compliance: sizing and fit, certification documentation, and issuing equipment to named workers against a site allowance. Most distributors sell both, and the two builds share the account and ERP layers while sharing almost nothing above them.
