# Wholesale Scrubs Sold by Size, Length and Hospital Color

> Uncap builds wholesale scrubs ecommerce on Shopify for scrub brands and medical uniform distributors selling to hospitals, clinics, dental and veterinary practices and uniform retailers. A scrub pant is ordered on three axes: size, length and color. Petite is not one inseam, even inside one brand. And the color can be set by the hospital, role by role.

## The challenge

**Where a generic storefront breaks for wholesale scrubs**

A scrub pant is ordered on three axes: size, length and color.

| | Factor | Generic storefront setup | What scrub brands and distributors need |

| --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Length | A nurse who reorders "petite" in a different style can get a pant two inches shorter. | The inseam for each length shown as product data, so petite reads as a measurement, not a label. |
| Options | On a scrub pant, size, length and color take all three option slots. | Each scrub style carries size, length and color as its three Shopify options, configured during implementation. |
| Color programs | The shade is the rule, not the brand. | One catalog per hospital or clinic location on Shopify Plus, with role catalogs inside a location built during implementation. |
| Label data | The label is federal. | Fiber content, manufacturer name or RN, country of origin and care instructions on each product page, configured during implementation. |
| Scrubs and PPE | Scrubs are work clothes, not protective equipment. | Separate collections and filters, so a buyer filtering for protective apparel does not get a scrub set, built during implementation. |

**Petite is a range, not a number.** [Cherokee](https://www.cherokeeuniforms.com/cherokee-workwear/cherokee-workwear-originals/female/womens-scrubs-elastic-waist-utility-scrub-pants/ck4200.html) lists a petite inseam of 26½ inches on its CK-WW011 jogger, 27½ on its CK-4200 utility pant and 28½ on its CK-WW105 tapered leg pant. FIGS sorts lengths by height, with petite up to 5 feet 5 inches and tall from 5 feet 9 inches, and its women's Zamora pant runs 27 inches in petite while its Livingston runs 29. A nurse who reorders "petite" in a different style can get a pant two inches shorter.

**Three options fill one product.** Shopify's help center says "Each product can have up to three options" and "You can create up to 2,048 variants for a product." On a scrub pant, size, length and color take all three option slots. Anything else a buyer chooses, such as fit, has to be handled outside those options, and that is a catalog design decision.

**The hospital picks the color, by role.** [MercyOne's uniform color chart](https://www.mercyone.org/sites/default/files/2026-03/Scrub_colors_2-23-2026.pdf), dated February 2026, tells patients: "To help you understand the role of each person who enters your room, we wear specific colors to indicate what we do." It gives colors to roles from housekeeping and lab to registered nurses and radiology, and it tells staff: "You may purchase any brand online, as long as the color shade matches your colleagues." The shade is the rule, not the brand.

**The label is federal.** Under the FTC's [Textile Rules](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-16/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-303), required information includes "the generic names and percentages by weight of the constituent fibers," the name or registered identification number of the manufacturer or a marketer, and the country where the product was processed or manufactured. The Care Labeling Rule says care labels "must state what regular care is needed for the ordinary use of the product."

**Scrubs are work clothes, not protective equipment.** OSHA's [bloodborne pathogens standard](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-XVII/part-1910/subpart-Z/section-1910.1030) defines personal protective equipment as "specialized clothing or equipment worn by an employee for protection against a hazard," and says: "General work clothes (e.g., uniforms, pants, shirts or blouses) not intended to function as protection against a hazard are not considered to be personal protective equipment."

## The Uncap solution

**Size, length and color as the variant model.** Each scrub style carries size, length and color as its three options. The inseam for each length is product data shown on the page, so a buyer sees "petite, 27½ inches" rather than "petite." That model is configured during implementation from your own size charts.

**A catalog for each color program.** Shopify says B2B catalogs "determine the products and pricing your B2B customers can access." On the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans, a store can assign up to 3 active catalogs across all its B2B markets. Shopify Plus "offers an unlimited number of catalogs and direct assignment to companies and locations." So on Plus, each hospital in a health system can be a company location with its own catalog in its own colors. Catalogs by role inside one location are built during implementation.

**Accounts for the people who order.** In [Uncap Portal](https://www.uncap.com/products/portal), buyers get real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, and each buyer sees their assortment and pricing. Spend controls cover budgets, approvals and limits per user, and reorder lists and order history are a click away. Per-employee allowances are built during implementation.

**Group orders on a quote.** A new unit or an annual refresh is a quote, not a cart. [Uncap Quotes](https://www.uncap.com/products/quotes) runs the full configure, price, quote process inside the Shopify admin, with negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks applied automatically and exceptions sent to the right approver. Logo and name embroidery is built on top of Quotes during implementation, and an approved quote becomes a Shopify cart and order in a single click.

**Label data on every product page.** Fiber content, the manufacturer's name or registered identification number, country of origin and care instructions are carried as product data and shown on each page, configured during implementation. For direct sales to individual buyers, the Textile Rules say that when a textile fiber product is advertised in mail order material, its description "shall contain a clear and conspicuous statement that the product was either made in U.S.A., imported, or both." Mail order material there means material used in direct sale and disseminated "to ultimate consumers in print or by electronic means, other than by broadcast."

**The ERP stays the system of record.** [Uncap Connect](https://www.uncap.com/products/connect) moves inventory, orders, customers and pricing between Shopify and your ERP the moment they change, not in an overnight batch.

## Key features

- Size, length and color matrix. Each scrub style carries size, length and color as its three Shopify options, configured during implementation.
- Inseam on the page. The inseam for each length shown as product data, so petite reads as a measurement, not a label.
- Color program catalogs. One catalog per hospital or clinic location on Shopify Plus, with role catalogs inside a location built during implementation.
- Shade filters. A program color stored as a shade attribute across brands, so a buyer can filter for the hospital's shade rather than for one brand's name for it, built during implementation.
- Staff accounts and spend controls. Multi-user accounts with roles, permissions, budgets, approvals and limits per user through Uncap Portal, with reorder lists and order history a click away.
- Group orders and embroidery on a quote. Negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks on an Uncap Quotes quote, with validity windows and a full revision history, so an annual group order is revised rather than rebuilt. The embroidery configuration is built during implementation.
- Pack increments and volume breaks. Shopify quantity rules sell a product in set increments, and volume pricing offers price breaks on larger quantities.
- Label and origin data. Fiber content, manufacturer name or RN, country of origin and care instructions on each product page, configured during implementation.
- Scrubs kept apart from protective apparel. Separate collections and filters, so a buyer filtering for protective apparel does not get a scrub set, built during implementation.
- ERP sync. Inventory, orders, customers and pricing kept current between Shopify and the ERP through Uncap Connect or a managed iPaaS integration.

## Why Uncap

**The line between product and build, in writing.** Accounts and spend controls ship in Uncap Portal, quoting and approvals in Uncap Quotes, and ERP sync in Uncap Connect. The length model, role catalogs, embroidery configuration, allowances and label data are built during implementation from your data. The scope says which is which.

**Proof, labeled at its true distance.** Uncap has not published a scrubs or medical apparel case study. The closest build shares the buyer. [Canon Medical Systems](https://www.uncap.com/work/canon-medical) sells to "clinics and consumers buying standard accessories and supplies, and hospitals and healthcare systems procuring high-value equipment through formal approvals." Uncap built Canon Medical Systems USA a unified Shopify storefront, with instant checkout for standard products and capital equipment routed through a quote funnel built on Uncap Quotes. The published results include 24% growth and 83% lower total cost of ownership. Same hospital buyer, different product.

**Credentials and prices you can check.** Uncap is a Shopify Platinum Partner. Uncap Connect starts at $8,000 for onboarding and then a flat $390 per month. The [Uncap Blueprint](https://www.uncap.com/blueprint) is a $7,500 fixed-price, four-week Shopify migration plan, credited 1:1 toward implementation. It covers solution architecture, a data migration taxonomy and an ERP integration audit. For a scrubs business, that work can cover the size and length model, the color programs, the label data and the ERP integration.

## Ready to talk

Bring three documents:

- One size chart with your petite, regular and tall inseams.
- One hospital's color program, by role.
- Last year's group order for that account.

First, the size chart shows how many options each style needs. Next, the color program shows how many catalogs the account needs. Last, the group order shows what your ERP has to send to the storefront. If you also sell to individual nurses, bring one product page from your consumer store too. It shows whether the fiber, origin and care data already travel with the product, or live only on the sewn-in label.

[Talk to Our Experts](https://www.uncap.com/quote), or start with a Blueprint if what you need first is the catalog and integration plan written down and costed.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Shopify handle petite, regular and tall scrub lengths?

Yes. Shopify allows up to three options and up to 2,048 variants on one product, so size, length and color can each be an option on a scrub pant. Length needs a measurement as well as a label: Cherokee's petite inseams run from 26½ to 28½ inches across three pants, so the inseam is shown as product data, configured during implementation.

### How do hospital color programs work on a wholesale scrubs store?

Each program becomes a catalog. Shopify B2B catalogs set the products and pricing a B2B customer can access. Basic, Grow and Advanced allow up to 3 active catalogs across all B2B markets, and Shopify Plus allows unlimited catalogs assigned directly to companies and locations. Catalogs by role inside one location, such as one for registered nurses and one for nurse aides, are built during implementation.

### What label information do scrubs need when sold online?

The FTC's Textile Rules require the generic fiber names and percentages by weight, the manufacturer's or a marketer's name or registered identification number, and the country of origin. The Care Labeling Rule requires care instructions, but says manufacturers and importers "need not provide care information with products sold to institutional buyers for commercial use." When a product is advertised in mail order material sent to consumers in print or by electronic means, its description "shall contain a clear and conspicuous statement that the product was either made in U.S.A., imported, or both." Fiber content varies even within one maker: Cherokee lists 65% polyester, 35% cotton on one pant and 78% polyester, 20% rayon, 2% spandex on another.

### Are scrubs personal protective equipment?

Not under OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standard, which says general work clothes "not intended to function as protection against a hazard are not considered to be personal protective equipment." Protective equipment is "specialized clothing or equipment worn by an employee for protection against a hazard." On the storefront, scrubs and protective apparel sit in separate collections and filters, built during implementation.

### How can I start selling scrubs wholesale online?

Start with three pieces of data: a size chart with real inseams per length, the fiber, origin and care data the FTC rules call for, and each account's color program. Shopify B2B runs on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans. Uncap Portal handles staff accounts, Uncap Quotes handles group orders, and Uncap Connect keeps the ERP in sync. The Uncap Blueprint maps it first.

### Can a hospital let staff buy any brand in its program color?

Some do. MercyOne's uniform color chart tells staff: "You may purchase any brand online, as long as the color shade matches your colleagues." On the storefront, that means the program color is stored as a shade attribute on every brand's product, so the account's catalog can show every style that matches. That shade data and filter are built during implementation from your product data.

### What is the difference between this page and the workwear and uniforms page?

The workwear and uniforms page covers uniform programs of every kind: per-employee allowances, logo and name decoration, approval routing and punchout. This page covers what scrubs add: petite, regular and tall lengths that differ by style, colors set by hospital role, federal label data, and keeping scrubs apart from protective equipment.

### Can one Shopify store sell scrubs to hospitals and to individual nurses?

Yes. Shopify says "You can use one store for both B2B and direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales, or create a separate B2B-only store," and B2B catalogs set what each business customer sees. Uncap built Canon Medical Systems a unified Shopify storefront with instant B2C checkout for standard products and an institutional RFQ funnel for capital equipment. For scrubs, the hospital account sees its color program and the individual nurse sees the public catalog.

### Which ERPs does this connect to?

Uncap publishes thirteen ERP family integrations: Acumatica, Cin7, Epicor, Fishbowl, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP and Syspro. Integrations are delivered through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. For a specific ERP and the depth of sync you need, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.
