# Powersports Parts Ordered Off the Fiche and Priced for the Dealer

> Uncap builds powersports parts ecommerce on Shopify for OEM dealer parts departments, aftermarket distributors and the brands that sell to both dealers and riders. One customer owns a quad, a side-by-side and a sled, and each machine needs its own fitment record down to trim and serial. The parts counter already works from the OEM fiche, the exploded view, not from a search box. The hard part of powersports parts ecommerce is not checkout. It is the parts layer underneath: machine records, diagrams, supersessions, two price books and the ERP feeding them.

## The challenge

**Where powersports breaks generic ecommerce**

Each machine needs its own fitment record, the counter works from the fiche, and dealer and rider prices sit on the same SKU.

| | Factor | Generic storefront setup | What powersports needs |

| --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Machine fitment | Fitment stops at year, make and model, which gets you close but not to the right part. | A fitment record for each machine down to trim and serial, identified by VIN or by model code and serial number. |
| Finding the part | The storefront starts with a part number search, asking the buyer for the one thing they do not have. | Ordering off the exploded view for the model year, the catalog your parts counter already trusts. |
| Superseded numbers | An old fiche number or the OEM number an aftermarket part replaces dead-ends, and the call comes to your counter. | An old number resolves to its replacement, and an OEM number resolves to your aftermarket equivalent. |
| Dealer and rider pricing | One price per product pushes you into two sites and two fitment databases drifting apart. | Dealer tiers, fleet rates and MAP retail on one SKU, with one fitment record sitting under both. |
| Batteries and oversize parts | Batteries and big parts handled like brake pads, though wet lead-acid batteries are regulated for transport. | The shipping rule belongs to the SKU, and checkout knows it before the buyer pays. |

**Year, make and model gets you close. Trim and serial get you the right part.** Take the 2-seat and 4-seat versions of one side-by-side, or a 137 and a 146 inch track on the same sled chassis. Each can change which part fits, and so can a running change halfway through a model year. Some machines are identified by VIN, others by a model code and a serial number off the frame tag. The Auto Care Association's [Aftermarket Catalog Exchange Standard (ACES)](https://www.autocare.org/aces) covers powersports alongside cars and trucks. Your fitment data still probably arrives from three directions: OEM fiche data, brand fitment files and supplier spreadsheets, each naming the same machine differently.

**The parts fiche is the catalog your counter already trusts.** At an OEM dealer, the parts counter opens the exploded view for the model year and turns to the assembly: front brake, clutch, drive belt housing. The reference number comes off the drawing. The rider holding a snapped lever does the same thing with a finger. A storefront that starts with a part number search asks the buyer for the one thing they do not have.

**Part numbers move under you.** OEMs supersede part numbers as designs change. A gasket gets a new number, two parts merge into a kit, a bracket is replaced by a revised one. The old number is still printed on the fiche the dealer has open, on the box in the rider's garage and in last season's order history. Aftermarket parts add another layer, because riders search by the OEM number the aftermarket part replaces. When either number dead-ends on your site, the call comes to your counter.

**Two price books sit on one SKU.** The same slip-on exhaust sells to a dealer at a program tier and to a rental fleet at a negotiated rate. A rider pays a price the brand's minimum advertised price (MAP) policy protects. A storefront that shows one price per product pushes you into two sites, and two sites means two fitment databases drifting apart.

**Snow and summer run on different calendars.** Sled parts, drive belts and traction studs move in the fall. UTV, dirt bike and watercraft parts move in the spring. Dealers stock up on preseason orders, then reorder in small lots when the first cold snap or the first warm weekend empties the shelf. Availability shown to a dealer in October has to match the warehouse. A backordered belt on a Friday is a lost weekend for the rider.

**Batteries and big parts do not ship like brake pads.** Wet lead-acid batteries are regulated for transport under [49 CFR 173.159](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-173/subpart-E/section-173.159). A battery can be treated as non-spillable only if it withstands the two tests that section sets out. Plow blades and windshields ship oversize. The shipping rule belongs to the SKU, and checkout has to know it before the buyer pays.

## The Uncap solution

**From the machine on file to the part in the cart**

The parts layer underneath checkout, built inside Shopify on the product records your buyers check out against.

### 1. Machine, Fit the part to the machine

Buyers save their vehicle and the catalog narrows to parts that fit.
- Year-Make-Model fitment through Uncap Garage, powered by ACES and PIES data
- Your powersports machine list and fitment records loaded and mapped during implementation
- Every unit owned, with lookup by VIN, model code or serial number, built during implementation

### 2. Part, Order off the exploded view

A dealer or rider drills from assembly to sub-assembly to part and adds the exact part without a part number.
- Clickable hotspots mapped to live SKUs in Uncap Diagrams
- Existing schematics imported and callouts mapped once
- Old and OEM numbers resolved to the current part, built during implementation

### 3. Order, Priced for the dealer, synced to the ERP

Each dealer sees their own assortment and pricing, and the ERP stays the system of record.
- Multi-user company accounts with roles and permissions in Uncap Portal
- Preseason stocking orders and fleet deals through Uncap Quotes
- Real-time, two-way ERP sync through Uncap Connect

The hard part of powersports parts ecommerce is not checkout. It is the parts layer underneath: machine records, diagrams, supersessions, two price books and the ERP feeding them. Uncap builds that layer inside Shopify, on the product records your buyers check out against.

**Order off the exploded view.** [Uncap Diagrams](https://www.uncap.com/products/diagrams) turns the exploded view into the storefront, with clickable hotspots mapped to live SKUs. You import your existing schematics and map the callouts once. Then a dealer or rider drills from assembly to sub-assembly to part, filtered by model, year or assembly, and adds the exact part without a part number. Which OEM diagrams you can publish depends on your dealer agreement or your own drawings, and that gets settled in scoping.

**Fit the part to the machine, and keep every machine on file.** [Uncap Garage](https://www.uncap.com/products/garage) handles vehicle-based Year-Make-Model fitment powered by ACES and PIES data: buyers save their vehicle and the catalog narrows to parts that fit. Garage was built for automotive catalogs, so your powersports machine list and fitment records are loaded and mapped during implementation. Machine records are built during implementation on the customer's account: every unit owned, parts lookup by VIN, model code or serial number, and warranty and service records per unit.

**Superseded and cross-referenced numbers resolved to the current part.** Supersession and cross-reference are not published capabilities of any Uncap product. Both are built during implementation. An old number from a fiche, a box or last season's order then resolves to its replacement, and an OEM number resolves to your aftermarket equivalent, using the supersession and cross-reference data your ERP or catalog already holds.

**Dealer tiers and retail on one catalog.** [Uncap Portal](https://www.uncap.com/products/portal) gives each dealer a real multi-user company account with roles and permissions, where the buyer sees their own assortment and pricing. Reorder lists and order history are a click away, and net terms, invoices and payments sit in the portal. MAP display, tier stacking, minimum order quantities and warranty returns are configured during implementation from your own price sheets and policies. Preseason stocking orders and fleet deals run through [Uncap Quotes](https://www.uncap.com/products/quotes), the configure, price, quote workflow inside the Shopify admin. Negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks apply automatically, exceptions route to the right approver, and an approved quote becomes a Shopify order in one click.

**The ERP stays the system of record.** [Uncap Connect](https://www.uncap.com/products/connect) keeps Shopify and your ERP in real-time, two-way sync, including customer-specific pricing, credit terms and tax rules. It lives inside Shopify, not in a separate middleware platform, and keeps an audit trail. Depending on the ERP, the integration runs through an owned Uncap Connect app or a managed iPaaS integration. Shipping rules by SKU class (wet batteries, oversize, freight) are configured during implementation.

**Is Shopify enough on its own?** No. Plain Shopify does not fit a sled by track length or draw a fiche. The real decision is where the parts layer lives. Built inside Shopify, on the records the ERP updates, it gives dealers, riders and your counter one catalog instead of three that disagree.

**The closest published build.** [Scooterworks](https://www.uncap.com/work/scooterworks) sells scooters, parts and accessories to retail customers and authorized dealers. Uncap implemented a custom Year-Make-Model search and shoppable diagrams so buyers identify and purchase parts visually. The ERP integration keeps inventory, pricing and product information up to date, ShipperHQ provides tailored shipping rates, and Shopify's B2B catalogs and dealer resources support authorized sellers. Andy Morgen, Director of Operations: "Commerce Build met our expectations, successfully replatforming us to Shopify Plus and integrating the new platform with our ERP." Scooters sit next to powersports, not inside it: the case study covers no ATV, UTV or snowmobile catalog.

## Why Uncap

**We have shipped this shape of catalog.** Fitment search, shoppable diagrams and dealer resources on one ERP-connected store, at Scooterworks.

**Diagram ordering and vehicle fitment are products.** Uncap Diagrams and Uncap Garage already run on Shopify. The powersports work on top (fitment data load, machine records, supersession, MAP display, hazmat and freight rules) is named as implementation work and priced in the scope, not discovered in week six.

**A long record on Shopify.** Uncap is a Shopify Platinum Partner, on Shopify since 2013, with 380+ unified storefronts launched on Shopify.

**Scoped before it is built.** An Uncap [Blueprint](https://www.uncap.com/blueprint) is a fixed-price, four-week engagement covering solution architecture, data taxonomy, ERP integration and UX before any build starts. For powersports, that means your fitment sources, diagram rights, tier structure and ERP, written down and costed. The plan is yours to keep, with Uncap or without.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Shopify enough for powersports parts, or do we need a separate parts layer?

You need a parts layer, and it belongs inside Shopify rather than beside it. Plain Shopify does not know a 146 inch track from a 137 or draw an exploded view, so fitment, diagrams and dealer pricing have to be added. Uncap Diagrams and Uncap Garage run on the Shopify product records the ERP updates through Uncap Connect, scoped as one build rather than stacked as unrelated add-ons. A separate catalog service means fitment kept in two places and stock reconciled across three systems.

### Can dealers and riders order straight from OEM exploded diagrams?

Yes. Uncap Diagrams puts the exploded view on the storefront with clickable hotspots mapped to live SKUs, so buyers add the exact part without a part number. You import existing schematics and map the callouts once, and buyers drill from assembly to sub-assembly to part. Suggesting the gaskets and consumables that go with the job is built during implementation. Whether you can publish a given OEM's diagrams depends on your dealer agreement or your own drawings, confirmed during scoping.

### Does ACES fitment data cover ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles and snowmobiles?

Yes, the Auto Care Association describes ACES as the fitment standard for light, medium and heavy duty vehicles, powersports, and off-highway and equipment. Uncap Garage's vehicle Year-Make-Model fitment is powered by ACES and PIES data and was built for automotive catalogs. For a powersports catalog, your machine list and fitment records are loaded and mapped during implementation. ACES powersports data is used where your brands supply it, OEM or house data where they do not.

### Can a customer find and reorder parts by VIN or serial number?

Yes, and it is built during implementation rather than shipped as a product feature. Each customer account holds the machines it owns, with the VIN or model code and serial number for each, so a parts search starts from the unit. Warranty and service records can sit against the same unit. For repeat orders, Uncap Portal keeps reorder lists and order history a click away.

### How do dealer tiers and MAP pricing work on the same catalog?

Dealers log in to a company account in Uncap Portal and see their own assortment and pricing, while riders see retail on the same product. How MAP is displayed and how dealer tiers stack by program, volume and preseason commitment are configured during implementation from your own price sheets.

### How do superseded and cross-referenced part numbers resolve?

They resolve to the part you sell today, through logic built during implementation. Supersession and cross-reference are not published capabilities of any Uncap product, so they go in the scope and the price rather than on a feature list. The build reads the supersession and cross-reference data your ERP or catalog already holds. A number off an old fiche or a box on a garage shelf lands on the current part, and a rider holding an OEM number lands on your aftermarket equivalent.

### How are batteries and oversize parts handled at checkout?

Shipping rules are set per SKU class during implementation, so wet batteries, oversize items and freight are rated before the order is placed. Wet lead-acid batteries fall under 49 CFR 173.159, and a battery can be treated as non-spillable only if it withstands the tests in that section. At Scooterworks, Uncap added ShipperHQ for tailored shipping rates, one proven route for this kind of rule.

### Which ERPs do you integrate with?

Uncap publishes integration pages for twelve ERP families, including Epicor, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, SAP and Sage. Each integration is delivered through an owned Uncap Connect app or a managed iPaaS integration. Uncap Connect keeps Shopify and the ERP in real-time, two-way sync, including customer-specific pricing, credit terms and tax rules. For your ERP and the depth of sync you need, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.

### What is the difference between this page and the auto parts and aftermarket page?

The machine. The auto parts page is built around cars and trucks: vehicle Year-Make-Model fitment, jobber and fleet tiers, and core charges. This page is for catalogs where one customer owns several machines of different types. The OEM fiche is how the counter already finds parts, and demand follows snow and summer. The account, pricing and ERP layers are shared between the two builds.
