Wholesale Blank T-Shirts and Decorating Supplies, Sold the Way Print Shops Order

Uncap builds B2B ecommerce on Shopify for distributors and manufacturers selling wholesale blank t-shirts and decorating supplies to screen printers, embroiderers, heat transfer shops and promotional product decorators. In this trade the blank sets up the rest of the order. Gildan offers its 5000 tee in 80 colors and 8 sizes and says its fiber content varies by color, so the color a shop picks can change which ink the job needs next.

The challenge

Where a generic storefront breaks for blanks and decorating supplies

In this trade the blank sets up the rest of the order.

Factor
Generic storefront setup
What a decorating supply seller needs
One style, every size
A shop ordering six dozen shirts spread across five sizes is ordering five variants.
Every size of a style and color entered on one line, so six dozen shirts across five sizes go in as one entry, built during implementation.
Volume pricing
Shopify's B2B volume pricing applies to each variant: "Customers need to meet the required quantity for each variant to qualify for the price break."
Breaks on total pieces of a style across sizes and colors, built during implementation alongside Shopify's native per-variant volume pricing and quantity rules.
Fiber by color
Shopify's help center notes that "At this time, product variant metafields can't be displayed to customers."
Fiber content shown per variant from your product data, so a decorator sees which colors of a style are blends before choosing an ink, built during implementation.
Thread color
An embroiderer's client may hand over a brand color. The order is placed in thread numbers.
A color reference resolved to your thread numbers, with no-match cases sent to your team, built during implementation.
Safety data sheets
Where an ink, emulsion or screen chemical you ship is a hazardous chemical, 29 CFR 1910.1200 puts the SDS duty on the distributor.
The current safety data sheet linked to the order, with revisions flagged, built during implementation.
Equipment
Heat presses, embroidery machines and dryers sold on a quote, not in a cart.
Presses and machines quoted, approved and converted to a Shopify order in one click through Uncap Quotes.

One style is hundreds of SKUs. The Gildan 5000 is listed as a 5.3 oz/yd², 100% US cotton tee, offered in 80 colors and 8 sizes, S through 5XL. That is 640 combinations for one style. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants and up to three options per product, so the style fits on one product page. Shopify's B2B volume pricing applies to each variant, and its help center is plain about it: "Customers need to meet the required quantity for each variant to qualify for the price break." A shop ordering six dozen shirts spread across five sizes is ordering five variants.

Fiber content follows the color, and the ink follows the fiber. Gildan's own product page says "Fiber content varies by color, see color list for exceptions." On the ink side, Avient's 2017 release for Wilflex EPIC Single LC White describes the screen printer's day: "Typically, they work with polyester, cotton-poly blends and 100% cotton garments in a given day, and often have to switch inks to avoid bleeding, adhesion or fiber problems." Avient lists that white with a low-temperature cure of 260 to 280°F.

Embroidery has its own matching rules. Madeira's E-Zee backing and topping guide sets two of them: "FABRIC construction determines the TYPE of the backing!" and "DESIGN type determines the WEIGHT of the backing!" It puts knit fabrics, with T-shirts, polo shirts and sweatshirts as examples, on cut away backing. Madeira offers Pantone matching to its threads, but "as PANTONE® has thousands of colors and Madeira has hundreds, there may not always be a PANTONE® authorized match available." An embroiderer's client may hand over a brand color. The order is placed in thread numbers.

Supplies come in more shapes than a SKU. Siser sells EasyWeed heat transfer vinyl in a 12 inch width at lengths from a 10 inch sheet to 20 feet, in dozens of colors. On Siser's own store, width, length and color are separate options, and the price changes with the length.

Chemicals travel with paperwork. Where an ink, emulsion or screen chemical you ship is a hazardous chemical under OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200 puts this duty on distributors: "Distributors shall ensure that safety data sheets, and updated information, are provided to other distributors and employers with their initial shipment and with the first shipment after a safety data sheet is updated."

The Uncap solution

One style on one page, every size on one line. The buyer picks a color and types quantities across the size run in a single grid, so six dozen shirts go in as one entry rather than five trips to the cart. If your price sheet breaks on total pieces of a style across sizes and colors, that rule is built during implementation, because Shopify's native volume pricing counts each variant on its own.

Fiber and cure data where the decision is made. Shopify's help center notes that "At this time, product variant metafields can't be displayed to customers." Showing fiber content per color on the product page, and filtering inks by cure temperature and the fabrics they suit, is built during implementation from your product data. So are supply suggestions from your compatibility tables, such as a cut away backing next to a knit polo. The site never certifies a print result.

Thread ordered from the client's color. A lookup from a brand color reference to your thread numbers is built during implementation from your thread supplier's cross-reference, with no-match colors routed to your team.

Trade accounts that match how shops buy. In Uncap Portal, each shop gets real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions and sees its own assortment and pricing. Reorder lists, NET terms, invoices and payments sit in the portal, and budgets, approvals and limits per user set what each press operator can order.

Equipment on a quote, not in a cart. Heat presses, embroidery machines and dryers run through Uncap Quotes: configure, price, quote inside the Shopify admin. Negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks apply automatically, exceptions go to the right approver, quotes carry validity windows and a full revision history, and the approved quote becomes a Shopify order in one click.

The safety data sheet on the first shipment. Linking the current SDS to the order and flagging the first shipment after an SDS revision is built during implementation from your SDS library. The duty stays yours.

Stock across every warehouse. Uncap Connect keeps pricing, inventory, customer data and orders in real-time, two-way sync between Shopify and your ERP, and it keeps multi-location inventory aligned, so a store can sell from any warehouse and show the same stock everywhere. It starts at $8,000 for onboarding and then a flat $390 per month. The ERP stays the system of record.

Key features

Size run grid. Every size of a style and color entered on one line, so six dozen shirts across five sizes go in as one entry, built during implementation.

Piece-count pricing. Breaks on total pieces of a style across sizes and colors, built during implementation alongside Shopify's native per-variant volume pricing and quantity rules.

Fiber by color. Fiber content shown per variant from your product data, so a decorator sees which colors of a style are blends before choosing an ink, built during implementation.

Ink, backing and transfer suggestions. Cure temperature and fabric filters and compatible-supply suggestions from your tables, built during implementation.

Thread by brand color. A color reference resolved to your thread numbers, with no-match cases sent to your team, built during implementation.

Shop accounts. Screen printers, embroiderers and promotional product decorators on multi-user accounts, account pricing, reorder lists, NET terms and per-user limits through Uncap Portal, with tax exemptions set per company or location in Shopify B2B.

Equipment quotes. Presses and machines quoted, approved and converted to a Shopify order in one click through Uncap Quotes.

Setup and training with the machine. Installation or training sold alongside the equipment through one checkout with Uncap Portal, where you offer them.

SDS with the shipment. The current safety data sheet linked to the order, with revisions flagged, built during implementation.

ERP sync, Connect or managed iPaaS. Pricing, inventory, customers and orders kept current across warehouses, with the ERP as the system of record, through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration.

Why Uncap

The line between product and build, in writing. Accounts, pricing, reorders and terms ship in Uncap Portal, quoting and approvals in Uncap Quotes, and ERP sync in Uncap Connect. The size run grid, piece-count pricing, fiber and cure data, supply suggestions, thread lookup and SDS handling are built during implementation from your data. The scope says which is which, so the custom work is priced before it starts rather than found halfway through.

Credentials you can check. Uncap is a Shopify Platinum Partner.

Proof from this trade. SignWarehouse is "a U.S.-based company that specializes in selling equipment, materials, and tools for sign making, custom graphics, and garment printing." Uncap delivered "a complete overhaul of the SignWarehouse storefront with Shopify B2B enablement and custom apps." The case study adds: "The build is a distributor storefront on Shopify B2B, so business buyers purchase through the same platform." That is the supply side of decoration, which is what this page covers.

Scoped before it is built. The Uncap Blueprint is a $7,500 fixed-price, 4-week Shopify migration engagement covering solution architecture, data-migration taxonomy, an ERP integration audit, UX and flow prototyping and a replatforming risk register. The fee is credited 1:1 toward implementation. For a decorating supply distributor, that architecture work can cover the style and variant model, the pricing rules, the compatibility tables and the ERP integration. You walk with everything you need to brief any agency or your in-house team.

This page sits under fashion and branded apparel, which covers seasonal wholesale to retail buyers: linesheets, size runs, prepacks and preseason ordering. If you decorate garments yourself for employee programs, with logo placement, stitch count pricing and approved artwork held per account, that is covered on workwear and uniforms. This page stays on the supply side: the blanks and consumables decorators buy. For the order desk side of distribution, see the field notes on B2B ecommerce for distributors, and for tier and volume price design, B2B ecommerce pricing strategies. For the paperwork, see the glossary entries on the safety data sheet and the resale certificate a buyer gives you when it buys goods to resell. For the ERP side, see the full list of ERP integrations, which lists each ERP vendor with its product pages nested underneath.

Ready to talk

Bring two documents. The first is your price sheet for your best-selling blank, every color and size on it. The second is one decorator's last order as it actually arrived, blanks and supplies together. Side by side they show how your pricing rules and your product data have to meet in one cart, and which of them already live in your ERP.

07 Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can Shopify hold a blank t-shirt style with every color and size?

Yes, for most styles. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants and up to three options per product. The Gildan 5000 comes in 80 colors and 8 sizes, which is 640 combinations, so it fits on one product. A style that adds a third option, such as fit or length, still has to stay under the 2,048 limit.

Does Shopify B2B volume pricing count pieces across sizes?

No, it counts each variant. Shopify applies volume pricing to each variant, and its help center says "Customers need to meet the required quantity for each variant to qualify for the price break," with up to 10 price breaks per product. If your price sheet breaks on total pieces of a style across sizes and colors, that rule is built during implementation.

How do decorators see fiber content for each color?

Only if the store shows it per variant. Gildan says the 5000's "Fiber content varies by color, see color list for exceptions," and Shopify's help center notes that "At this time, product variant metafields can't be displayed to customers." Showing fiber per color, and suggesting inks that suit it, is built during implementation from your product data.

Can embroiderers order thread by a brand color?

Yes, with a lookup built during implementation from your thread supplier's cross-reference. Madeira warns that "as PANTONE® has thousands of colors and Madeira has hundreds, there may not always be a PANTONE® authorized match available," so the lookup routes no-match colors to your team rather than guessing.

Do distributors have to send safety data sheets with screen printing chemicals?

Yes, for a distributor shipping a product that is a hazardous chemical under OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. 29 CFR 1910.1200 says "Distributors shall ensure that safety data sheets, and updated information, are provided to other distributors and employers with their initial shipment and with the first shipment after a safety data sheet is updated." Linking the current SDS to the order and flagging revised sheets is built during implementation.

Can print shops buy tax-exempt on a resale certificate?

Yes. Shopify B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, and on those plans you can set tax exemptions at the company or location level. Each company location can carry its own tax ID, tax exemptions, addresses, pricing, payment terms and contacts, so a shop with two locations is set up once per location.

Can blanks and decorating supplies go on one order?

Yes. Blanks, inks, vinyl, thread and backing sit in the same Shopify catalog, so a shop orders them through one cart and one checkout, and in Uncap Portal each buyer sees its own assortment and pricing. Heat transfer vinyl sold by length and color, such as Siser EasyWeed, fits the same variant model as a blank tee, with length and color as options. Equipment that needs a quote goes through Uncap Quotes and becomes a Shopify order once approved.

Which ERPs does this connect to?

Uncap publishes thirteen ERP family integrations: Acumatica, Cin7, Epicor, Fishbowl, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP and Syspro. Integrations are delivered through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. For a specific ERP and the depth of sync you need, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.

What is the difference between this page and the fashion and branded apparel page?

The buyer. The fashion and branded apparel page covers brands selling seasonal assortments to retail buyers through linesheets, prepacks and delivery windows. This page covers distributors and manufacturers selling blanks and decorating supplies to the shops that print and embroider them. Decoration for employee programs is on the workwear and uniforms page.
