Talk to our expertsThe store is built so a technician at a walk-in, reach-in, ice machine or display case can search by the equipment's model number or the OEM part number on the failed part. Since January 1, 2025, EPA's technology transitions rule has set refrigerant limits by date in retail food refrigeration, and its labeling rule covers condensing units, compressors and evaporators.
The challenge
Where a generic storefront breaks for commercial refrigeration parts
The store is built so a technician at a walk-in, reach-in, ice machine or display case can search by the equipment's model number or the OEM part number on the failed part.
The part is found from the equipment, not from your catalog
The search has to start from the equipment. The store is built so a technician can search from what is in front of them: the make and model of the walk-in or reach-in, and the number printed on the failed part. Your catalog knows its own SKU. A storefront that searches only by your SKU leaves the technician to call the counter for everything else.
One part, several numbers. Uncap's glossary defines parts interchange as "data that maps equivalent part numbers: OEM to aftermarket, brand to brand, and old numbers to their replacements, so any number a buyer has finds the right part." If your site only knows the OEM number, the replacement you stock never shows up in the search.
Walk-in motors carry a rule from the factory. Under DOE's walk-in standard, 10 CFR 431.306, each walk-in cooler or freezer manufactured on or after January 1, 2009 must, for evaporator fan motors of under 1 horsepower and less than 460 volts, use electronically commutated motors (brushless direct current motors) or 3-phase motors. Condenser fan motors of under 1 horsepower must be electronically commutated, permanent split capacitor or 3-phase motors. The same rule requires automatic door closers on walk-in doors, except doors wider than 3 feet 9 inches or taller than 7 feet, and "strip doors, spring hinged doors, or other method of minimizing infiltration when doors are open." That makes motor type, door closers and strip doors attributes worth showing on the product page before the order.
The refrigerant is part of the part
Dates now decide what can be made, sold and installed. EPA's rule at 40 CFR 84.54 bars manufacturing or importing stand-alone retail food refrigeration units that use a regulated substance, or a blend containing one, with a global warming potential of 150 or greater, effective January 1, 2025. Self-contained automatic commercial ice machines follow from January 1, 2026, for batch type machines with a harvest rate up to 1,000 pounds of ice per 24 hours and continuous type machines up to 1,200 pounds. Then the rule adds a sales date: "Effective three years after the dates listed for each subsector in paragraph (a) of this section, no person may sell, distribute, offer for sale or distribution" a product on that list. For stand-alone retail food refrigeration units, that sales date is January 1, 2028.
Installation has its own dates. The same section bars installing remote condensing units in retail food refrigeration systems that use a regulated substance with a global warming potential of 1,400 or greater, effective July 27, 2026, and cold storage warehouse systems at 700 or greater from the same date. EPA's GWP table for the rule lists R-290 (propane) at 3.3 and R-744 (carbon dioxide) at 1. The rule also spells out which actions, "upon charging the system to full charge," count as an installation, including "Assembling a system for the first time from used or new components" and "Replacing 75 percent or more of evaporators (by number) and 100 percent of the compressor racks, condensers, and connected evaporator loads of an existing system."
Components carry a label, and your listing has to match it. EPA defines a specified component as "condensing units, condensers, compressors, evaporator units, and evaporators." The product prohibitions in 84.54(a) and (b) "do not apply to components," but labeling does. Products, specified components and systems made, imported or installed from the subsector dates need a permanent label with the refrigerant's chemical name or ASHRAE designation and the year of manufacture, and 84.54(f) bars selling a product or specified component "that is not labeled in accordance with § 84.58." A specified component intended for a refrigerant above the applicable limit must also state "For servicing existing equipment only." For products sold online, 40 CFR 84.58(f) requires the label to be "readily visible and legible" in product photographs, packaging photographs or "an item description that contains the required information." Rule 84.54(i) adds that no person may falsely indicate "through marketing, packaging, labeling, or other means" a refrigerant that differs from the one actually used.
Refrigerant itself is restricted to certified buyers. EPA's Section 608 sales restriction, where sellers verify that the buyer is, or employs, a certified technician, is covered on HVAC equipment and repair parts and in the glossary entry for EPA 608 certification. The rule is not limited by end use, so it covers refrigerant sold for commercial refrigeration too.
A leaking system runs on a clock
EPA's leak repair rule, 40 CFR 82.157, applies to appliances with a full charge of 50 or more pounds of a class I or class II refrigerant or a blend containing one. It sets a "20 percent leak rate for commercial refrigeration equipment." Owners or operators "must identify and repair leaks" within 30 days of adding refrigerant to an appliance over that rate, or 120 days if an industrial process shutdown is required. That section does not apply to appliances that contain only substitute refrigerants. For HFC systems, EPA's leak repair rule at 40 CFR 84.106 has applied since January 1, 2026 to appliances with a full charge of 15 or more pounds of refrigerant containing a regulated substance, or a substitute with a global warming potential greater than 53. It sets the same "20 percent leak rate for commercial refrigeration appliances" and the same 30 day repair window. With that window running, the valve, the drier or the coil for the repair has to be easy to find, price and order.
The Uncap solution
Find the part from the equipment
Model and OEM number search. Search by the equipment model, the OEM part number or your own SKU, with a cross reference from OEM numbers to the replacements you stock, is built during implementation from manufacturer parts lists and your suppliers' cross-reference data. The technician types the number off the failed fan motor and sees the OEM part and the replacements side by side. For how cross references stay current, see the field notes on part number lookup and cross reference data.
Exploded views from the manufacturer's parts list. Uncap Diagrams puts interactive exploded diagrams on the storefront: clickable hotspots mapped to live SKUs add the exact part, no part number needed. It can filter by model, year or assembly automatically, and lets the technician drill from assembly to sub-assembly to part. Your existing schematics are imported and their callouts mapped to SKUs, with no redrawing. Pins convert into a bill of materials, so a gasket, a door closer and a hinge picked off one reach-in diagram become one order. See also selling parts by diagram.
Motor and door attributes shown before the order. Motor type, horsepower and voltage for every evaporator and condenser fan motor, and the original motor type of the walk-in model, are carried as product attributes, built during implementation from your product data. When a replacement differs in motor type from the original, the product page says so. Door closers, strip doors and gaskets are tied to the walk-in or reach-in models they fit.
Put the refrigerant on every record
Refrigerant as data, not a description line. Refrigerant designation, year of manufacture and, where the rule asks for it, the charge size or harvest rate class become filterable attributes on compressors, condensing units, evaporators and ice machines, built during implementation from your manufacturers' label data. A technician replacing a compressor in an R-290 reach-in filters to R-290 compressors. Uncap does not certify compliance or label equipment. The storefront shows what the manufacturer's label says, so the listing and the label match.
Stock dated by manufacture. For stand-alone units and ice machines held in stock, showing the manufacture year and stopping sale after a date you set are built during implementation from your ERP data. Which dates apply to which items is confirmed with your compliance team during scoping.
Accounts for service companies
Trade accounts in Uncap Portal. Uncap Portal gives service contractors and restaurant equipment service companies real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions. Each buyer sees their assortment and pricing, so a chain's service partner sees its contract price. Reorder lists and order history are a click away, for gaskets, filter driers and controls bought again and again. NET terms, invoices and payments sit in the portal, with budgets, approvals and limits per user.
Built on Shopify B2B. Shopify B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Shopify Plus plans. B2B catalogs "determine the products and pricing your B2B customers can access," and on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans you can assign up to 3 active catalogs across all your B2B markets. Payment terms define how long a company has to pay for an order.
Quotes for systems and big repairs. When a condensing unit and unit cooler for a walk-in, or a compressor plus the parts for a rebuild, needs a quote first, Uncap Quotes applies negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks automatically, sends exceptions to the right approver and generates clean, shareable quote documents. Quotes carry validity windows and a full revision history, and approved quotes turn straight into Shopify orders.
Keep the ERP as the system of record
Real-time sync with the ERP. Uncap Connect is the real-time data layer between Shopify and your ERP: inventory, orders, customers and pricing move the moment they change, not in an overnight batch. It starts at $8,000 for onboarding and then a flat $390 per month. Field-level rules decide which system wins, every time, and failed sync events are isolated, surfaced in a live console and replayable, so nothing is silently dropped. Connect has native support for Shopify B2B companies, locations, catalogs, price lists and payment terms, and the ERP stays the system of record. Mapping refrigerant and motor attributes from the ERP item master to Shopify is configured during implementation. Integration can also run as a managed iPaaS integration.

Ready to talk
Bring two documents. The first is the cross reference your counter uses for your top-selling fan motors and compressors, OEM numbers on one side and the replacements you stock on the other. The second is a list of the refrigerants your stocked compressors, condensing units and ice machines run on, with where that data lives today. Together they show how much of your catalog a technician could find without calling.

Frequently asked questions
Where can businesses buy commercial refrigeration parts?
In both of our October 29, 2026 searches for "commercial refrigeration parts," the sellers on the first page were refrigeration supply distributors, foodservice equipment parts sellers and equipment manufacturers' own parts stores, with a local pack of refrigeration supply distributors. On Shopify, a manufacturer or distributor can serve them through trade accounts with their own pricing in Uncap Portal.
Where can I find genuine OEM refrigeration parts?
From the equipment manufacturer's own parts program and from parts distributors that stock its numbers. An OEM part carries the equipment maker's own part number, so start from the model number on the equipment and the number on the failed part. On a Shopify store, search by model and OEM number with a cross reference to replacements is built during implementation.
What is the difference between OEM and replacement refrigeration parts?
An OEM part carries the equipment maker's part number. A replacement part comes from another maker under its own number. Uncap's glossary defines parts interchange as data that maps equivalent part numbers, "OEM to aftermarket, brand to brand, and old numbers to their replacements." A storefront that carries that map shows the OEM part and the replacements you stock for the same search.
What motors does DOE require in walk-in coolers and freezers?
Under 10 CFR 431.306, walk-ins manufactured on or after January 1, 2009 must use electronically commutated motors (brushless direct current motors) or 3-phase motors for evaporator fan motors of under 1 horsepower and less than 460 volts. Condenser fan motors of under 1 horsepower must be electronically commutated, permanent split capacitor or 3-phase motors. On the storefront, motor type is shown for the original and for each replacement, built during implementation.
Which refrigerants are being phased out in commercial refrigeration?
Under 40 CFR 84.54, EPA bars manufacturing or importing stand-alone retail food refrigeration units using a regulated substance with a global warming potential of 150 or greater from January 1, 2025, with sale and distribution of those products barred three years after that date, from January 1, 2028. It bars installing remote condensing units in retail food refrigeration at 1,400 or greater, and cold storage warehouse systems at 700 or greater, from July 27, 2026. Self-contained ice machines up to set harvest rates follow from January 1, 2026.
Do replacement compressors and condensing units need a refrigerant label?
Yes, when made, imported or installed from the dates for their subsector. EPA lists condensing units, condensers, compressors, evaporator units and evaporators as specified components. Under 40 CFR 84.58 they need a permanent label with the refrigerant's chemical name or ASHRAE designation and the year of manufacture, and 84.54(f) bars selling one "that is not labeled in accordance with § 84.58." A component intended for a refrigerant above the applicable limit must also say "For servicing existing equipment only." The product bans in 84.54(a) and (b) do not apply to components.
Which ERPs does this connect to?
Uncap publishes thirteen ERP family integrations: Acumatica, Cin7, Epicor, Fishbowl, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP and Syspro. Infor SX.e and Epicor Prophet 21 have their own integration pages. Integrations run through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. For a specific ERP and the depth of sync you need, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.
What is the difference between this page and the plumbing, HVAC and mechanical page?
The plumbing, HVAC and mechanical page covers how a contractor finds a part from the unit: model and serial lookup, diagrams, supersession, will call and truck stock. This page covers what commercial refrigeration adds: OEM to replacement cross references for walk-ins, reach-ins, ice machines and display cases, DOE's walk-in motor and door rules, and EPA's refrigerant dates and component labels. Comfort cooling equipment has its own page, HVAC equipment and repair parts.
