Restaurant Food Storage Containers, Sold With the Lid That Fits
Uncap builds B2B ecommerce on Shopify for manufacturers and distributors of restaurant food storage containers: food pans, storage containers, ingredient bins, deli and takeout containers, lids and labels, sold to restaurants, caterers and foodservice operators. In this trade a container is never sold alone. It needs the lid that fits its size, a material rated for the job, a case pack the warehouse ships and a label the health code asks for. The storefront sells all four together.

Where a generic storefront breaks for food storage containers
In this trade a container is never sold alone.
Fit, material and the case
Three lids cover seven containers, and the buyer has to know which. Cambro's CamSquares Classic lid page lists three lids for seven container sizes: one fits the 2 and 4 quart containers, one fits 6 and 8 quart, and one fits 12, 18 and 22 quart. Cambro says these snap-on lids "fit all CamSquares, regardless of material," and that they match the graduations on Poly and Translucent CamSquare Classic containers "to allow chefs to quickly find the right lid." A kitchen that orders 8 quart containers with the wrong lid has containers it cannot cover.
One shape comes in three materials, each with its own rating. The same CamSquares Classic shape is sold in Camwear polycarbonate, translucent polypropylene and polyethylene. Cambro rates Camwear CamSquares for "-40°F to 210°F," compared with "-40°F to 185°F" for Translucent CamSquares, and says both are "dishwasher safe and NSF Listed." For the catalog, that is one product family with three sets of specs.
Everything ships by the case. Each CamSquares Camwear size, from 2 to 22 quart, lists a case pack of 6, and so does each lid. Cambro's StoreSafe food rotation labels come in seven pack formats, from a retail blister pack to laser sheet labels, and the bulk dispenser 6-pack ships as a case of six rolls, with 250 labels on each roll. A buyer who types 4 into a quantity box for a product sold in sixes has just created a phone call.
Price and the health code
The list price is not the buyer's price. Cambro publishes a list price on its product pages, and next to each one it adds: "Actual price may vary. Contact your distributor for exact pricing." A storefront that shows list price to a contract account shows the wrong number.
The health code puts a label on the container. The FDA Food Code says working containers holding food or ingredients "that are removed from their original packages for use in the FOOD ESTABLISHMENT, such as cooking oils, flour, herbs, potato flakes, salt, spices, and sugar shall be identified with the common name of the FOOD," except containers holding food "that can be readily and unmistakably recognized such as dry pasta." For refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared and held in the establishment for more than 24 hours, it requires, apart from the exceptions it lists, a mark showing "the date or day by which the FOOD shall be consumed on the PREMISES, sold, or discarded when held at a temperature of 5ºC (41ºF) or less for a maximum of seven days." So labels are a consumable, not an add-on.
Certification is a buying criterion. Section 4-205.10 of the Food Code says that food equipment and multiuse food-contact surfaces, including utensils and tableware, "that are certified or classified for sanitation in conformance to a recognized American National Standard by an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited certification program are deemed to comply" with Parts 4-1 and 4-2. FDA's list of American National Standards for food equipment includes NSF/ANSI 2, Food equipment, and NSF/ANSI 51, Food equipment materials. The Food Code is a model "offered for adoption by local, state, tribal, territorial, and federal governmental jurisdictions," so the rule a kitchen is inspected against is the version its jurisdiction adopted.
The Uncap solution
Matching, filters and case packs
Each container shows the lid that fits it. Your fit table, which lid covers which container sizes and materials, is carried into the product data during implementation. The container page shows its lid, the lid page shows the sizes it covers, and a cart that holds containers without a matching lid reminds the buyer before checkout. That fit logic and the cart reminder are built during implementation from your data.
Material and rating become filters. Material, temperature range, NSF listing, capacity and color are configured as product attributes from your spec sheets, so a buyer can narrow by temperature rating, such as Camwear pans rated from -40°F to 210°F. The storefront shows what your data says. It does not certify anything, and the spec sheet stays one click away.
Case packs enforced by Shopify, not by a note. In Shopify B2B, quantity rules set a minimum, a maximum and an increment, and "If you want to sell a product in certain increments, then you can use increment quantity rules." Shopify adds that "Increment rules apply to product variants," so color-coded lids sold in cases of 6 are ordered a case per color, or a mixed case is set up as its own product, decided in scoping. Volume pricing sits on top: "You can add up to 10 price breaks per product which are applied to each variant." Our guide to order minimums, case packs and MOQs on Shopify walks through the three rules that all get called a minimum.
Pricing, quotes and reorders
The account's price, from the ERP. Uncap Connect is a Shopify-to-ERP integration app, built as a Shopify embedded app, that keeps the store and the ERP in real-time, two-way sync. It has native support for Shopify B2B companies, locations, catalogs, price lists and payment terms, and the ERP stays the system of record. A restaurant group logs in and sees its contract price, not the list price.
A kitchen fit-out is a quote, not a cart. A new location needs food pans in several sizes and depths, storage containers, lids, ingredient bins and labels, often on one approval. Uncap Quotes runs configure, price, quote inside the Shopify admin. Negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks are applied automatically, exceptions go to the right approver, quotes carry validity windows and a full revision history, and an approved quote becomes a Shopify order in one click.
Reorders for the label drawer and the walk-in. Uncap Portal gives each account real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, and each buyer sees their assortment and pricing. Reorder lists and order history sit a click away, budgets, approvals and limits are set per user, and NET terms, invoices and payments sit in the portal. A kitchen's case of rotation labels becomes a line on its reorder list.
Proof, labeled at its true distance. Uncap has not published a case study for a food storage container manufacturer or distributor. The closest builds share mechanics, not products. For ULE Group, an electrical, lighting and power distribution company, Uncap built contract pricing on Shopify B2B with customized catalogs and account-based payment terms, a cart-level convert-to-quote feature for high-value purchases, and real-time product, inventory and pricing updates from Epicor. Microfiber Wholesale, a 75-year-old, family-owned supplier of cleaning and janitorial supplies for households, retailers and businesses, moved from a legacy platform to Shopify Plus with a stable and scalable solution for reaching B2B customers.
Key features
Lid fit on every container. The lid that covers each container size shown on the product page, with a cart reminder when a lid is missing, built during implementation from your fit table.
Material and rating filters. Polycarbonate, polypropylene and polyethylene, with temperature range and NSF listing as filterable attributes, configured from your spec data.
Case packs as quantity rules. Minimums, maximums and increments per variant through Shopify B2B quantity rules, with up to 10 volume price breaks per product.
Allergen-free lines kept together. Cambro sells Allergen-Free Purple CamSquares, "Color-coded for allergen-conscious food handling," with matching Allergen-Free Seal Covers. Pairing those container and lid families on the storefront is configured during implementation.
Contract pricing from the ERP. Price lists, payment terms and customer-specific pricing synced through Uncap Connect, with the ERP as the system of record.

Reorder lists for consumables. Labels, deli containers and lids on account reorder lists in Uncap Portal, with budgets and limits per user.
Spec sheets on the product. Material, capacity, dimensions and certification documents shown from your product data, configured during implementation.
Why Uncap
The line between product and build, in writing. Account pricing sync ships in Uncap Connect, quoting and approvals in Uncap Quotes, and trade accounts and reorder lists in Uncap Portal. Lid fit logic, the missing-lid reminder, mixed-case products and spec attribute filters are built during implementation from your data. The scope says which is which.
A partner you can check. Uncap is a Shopify Platinum Partner. Uncap Connect starts at $8,000 for onboarding and then a flat $390 per month, and integrations run through an owned Uncap Connect app or a managed iPaaS integration.
Scoped before it is built. The Uncap Blueprint is a $7,500 fixed-price, four-week Shopify migration engagement, and the fee is credited 1:1 toward implementation. It covers solution architecture, a data migration taxonomy, an ERP integration audit, UX and flow prototyping and a replatforming risk register. For a food storage container business, that work can map your lid fit table, case packs, material specs and price lists before a page is designed. You walk with everything you need to brief any agency or your in-house team.
This page sits under restaurant and hotel supply ecommerce, which covers order guides, par level reordering, standing weekly orders and delivery route cutoffs for the supplies a property runs on. This page goes down to the container, the lid and the label. If your product is the food itself, with catch weight, lot and expiry, see food distribution ecommerce. If you sell shipping packaging such as corrugate and stretch film, by the each, inner, case and pallet, see packaging supply ecommerce. For the vocabulary, see the glossary entry for case pack. For the ERP side, see the full list of ERP integrations, or the Epicor Prophet 21 integration if you run a distribution business on P21.
Ready to talk
Bring two documents. The first is your lid fit chart for one container line. The second is one account's price sheet next to your published list prices. Together they show how much of the catalog depends on matching, and how much depends on pricing. If you also sell through distributors, add one distributor order, because it shows which case packs and price breaks the channel really uses.

Frequently asked questions
What food storage containers do restaurants use?
Commercial kitchens store food in storage containers, food pans and ingredient bins, and date it with food rotation labels. Cambro, for example, sells its CamSquares Classic containers from 2 to 22 quarts in polycarbonate, polypropylene and polyethylene, Camwear food pans from full size down to ninth size in depths from 2 1/2 to 8 inches, and ingredient bins from 21 to 42.5 gallons. Cambro sells CamSquares lids separately, and each lid fits a range of container sizes.
Do restaurant food storage containers have to be NSF certified?
The FDA Food Code sets material requirements, saying materials used for utensils and the food-contact surfaces of equipment shall be safe, durable, corrosion-resistant and nonabsorbent under normal use, among other conditions. It says food equipment and multiuse food-contact surfaces, including utensils and tableware, that are certified or classified for sanitation to a recognized American National Standard by an ANSI-accredited certification program "are deemed to comply" with Parts 4-1 and 4-2, which hold those material requirements. FDA's list of those standards includes NSF/ANSI 2 and NSF/ANSI 51. The Food Code is a model code, so the local health department enforces the version its jurisdiction adopted.
How long can prepared food stay in a container in a restaurant refrigerator?
The FDA Food Code says refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared and held in a food establishment for more than 24 hours shall be clearly marked with the date or day by which it is consumed, sold or discarded "when held at a temperature of 5ºC (41ºF) or less for a maximum of seven days," with the day of preparation counted as Day 1. The code lists exceptions, such as food packaged by a reduced oxygen packaging method. That is why kitchens date-label containers and reorder labels steadily.
Do food storage containers have to be labeled?
The FDA Food Code says working containers holding food or ingredients removed from their original packages, such as cooking oils, flour, herbs, potato flakes, salt, spices and sugar, "shall be identified with the common name of the FOOD." It exempts containers holding food "that can be readily and unmistakably recognized such as dry pasta." Your jurisdiction's adopted code is the one that applies.
How should a food container manufacturer sell lids online?
Sell each lid with the container sizes it fits. Cambro's CamSquares Classic line, for example, uses three lids for seven container sizes. On Shopify, the container page showing its lid, the lid page showing the sizes it covers and a missing-lid reminder in the cart are built during implementation from your fit table, so a kitchen never receives containers it cannot cover.
Can Shopify enforce case packs for food containers?
Yes. Shopify B2B quantity rules set a minimum, a maximum and an increment per product variant, so a container sold in cases of 6 can carry an increment of 6. Shopify notes that customers cannot combine variants to meet an increment, so a mixed-color case can be set up as its own product. Volume pricing adds up to 10 price breaks per product.
What is the difference between this page and the restaurant and hotel supply page?
The restaurant and hotel supply page covers how a property orders the supplies it runs on: order guides, par levels, standing weekly orders and delivery route cutoffs. This page covers what makes food storage containers their own catalog problem: lids matched to container sizes, material and temperature ratings, NSF listing, case packs and the labels the Food Code asks for. Shipping packaging such as corrugate and stretch film is covered on the packaging supply page.
Which ERPs does this connect to?
Uncap publishes thirteen ERP family integrations: Acumatica, Cin7, Epicor, Fishbowl, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP and Syspro. Integrations run through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. On the Connect route, price lists, payment terms and customer-specific pricing stay in sync and the ERP stays the system of record. For a specific ERP and the depth of sync you need, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.
