Sell Wholesale Fishing Tackle by the Dealer, the Pack and the Season
Uncap builds wholesale fishing tackle ecommerce on Shopify for tackle manufacturers and fishing tackle distributors selling to bait and tackle shops, sporting goods dealers and marinas. Dealers apply before they see a price. A lure is a family of colors and sizes, sold in packs. Prebook orders and in-season fill-ins share one account. And some states restrict the sale of small lead sinkers and jigs.

Where a generic storefront breaks for tackle brands and distributors
Dealers apply before they see a price, and a lure is a family of colors and sizes, sold in packs.
A dealer account comes before a price
Wholesale starts with an application. One rod building and tackle distributor says its wholesale program is "intended for the sole use of licensed business professionals." It asks for documents as each state requires them, and lists "state resale certificates, business licenses, EIN, seller's permit, Certificate of Authority, etc." Taking applications like that online needs a form, a file upload, a review and a decision before any wholesale price appears. When that application lives in an inbox, nobody can see which shops are waiting, and an approved dealer still has to wait for someone to set up the account by hand.
The advertised price and the dealer price are different numbers. If your brand runs a minimum advertised price policy, often called MAP pricing, the FTC's guidance is the place to start. The FTC says "The law allows a manufacturer considerable leeway in setting the terms for advertising that it helps to pay for," and also that "There are limited situations when these programs can have an unreasonable effect on price levels." On the storefront that means two prices with two audiences. The public sees the price you choose to advertise. The dealer sees their cost only after signing in. A site that shows one price to everyone breaks the dealer program the day it launches.
A lure is a family of variants, sold in packs
Colors and sizes multiply fast. A crankbait offered in 40 colors and four sizes is 160 variants of one product. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants per product and up to three options, so the color and size both fit, with a third option left for weight or pack. Shopify also says "Some third-party themes might not support more than 100 variants." It allows up to 250 media items per product, and each variant can have one media item applied. A 160-variant page needs a theme that handles the count and a photo for every color.
Shops buy in packs, not singles. If a jig head ships in inner packs of six and cases of 72, the dealer has to order in sixes, and the case price only applies at 72. Shopify's increment rules handle the sixes, but they apply per variant: Shopify says "Customers can’t combine 5 gray hats and 5 blue hats to meet an increment of 10 hats." A shop that wants three colors in one inner pack is asking for a different product, an assortment with its own SKU. Which colors you sell as assortments is a catalog decision, made before anyone loads a product.
Prebook and fill-in run side by side
Search demand follows the season. Google Ads data shows US searches for "wholesale fishing tackle" running from 720 in November 2025 to 1,900 in June 2026. One rod maker's dealer site asks dealers, "Want to exit the Pre-Book Program and place a regular order?" and tells them to "Visit the Booking order landing page when ready to review your program and submit." On that site, a dealer moves between the pre-book program and a regular order. A storefront that runs both has to keep a booking for future delivery apart from a fill-in that ships now.
Booking terms and fill-in terms can differ. If a booking placed in January for April delivery carries a different price, payment date or ship window from a fill-in placed in May, the storefront has to keep the two apart. When the booking sheet is a spreadsheet emailed to a rep, those terms get keyed into the ERP by hand, one dealer at a time, in the busiest weeks of the year.
Some lead tackle cannot be sold in some states
Lead rules are state law, and they differ. Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says "It is unlawful to use, sell, or offer for sale lead sinkers and unpainted lead jigs measuring 2.5 inches or less in length or weighing one ounce or less," and that "It is unlawful to sell or offer for sale painted lead jigs measuring 2.5 inches or less in length or weighing 1 ounce or less." In Maine, "Sale restrictions are statewide; use restrictions only apply in inland waters." The state's definition of a lead jig excludes "a lead core line, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, spoons, poppers, plugs or flies." New York's Department of Environmental Conservation says it "has restricted the sale of lead fishing sinkers (including "split shot") weighing one-half ounce or less to help protect wildlife." The two states draw the line at different weights. Your compliance team reads each state's own page and decides the list. The storefront has to know which SKUs are lead, what they weigh and where the order ships.
The Uncap solution
Dealer applications and dealer-only pricing
The application, built into Shopify. Shopify B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Shopify Plus plans. Shopify lets new B2B customers request access through company account requests, using the Shopify Forms app. When a shop submits the form, Shopify creates "a company, a company location, and a customer" in your admin. Custom fields can include a file upload, "A single file attachment of 20 MB or less," which is where a resale certificate or business license goes. Shopify says "By default, companies created through the form can't place orders in your online store or access B2B pricing until you approve them." Your team reviews the request and approves it, or rejects it by deleting the company. One limit to plan around: Shopify says "This feature doesn't allow customers to be added to an existing company," so a second buyer at a dealer you already serve cannot join through the form.
Prices hidden until sign-in. Company account requests do not work on a dedicated store that is gated to B2B customers only. Shopify's answer is to keep the store open and hide what the public should not see: "You can hide products, prices, buy buttons, and other information from non-logged in customers using Liquid code or the theme editor, depending on the theme you use." Theme editor customizations for B2B context are available on the Advanced and Plus plans.
Dealer accounts in Uncap Portal. In Uncap Portal, each buyer sees their assortment and pricing. Accounts are real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, with budgets, approvals and limits per user. Reorder lists and order history are a click away, and NET terms, invoices and payments sit in the portal.
MAP, where commerce can hold it. The storefront shows the price you choose to advertise to the public and the dealer net only behind sign-in. What a platform cannot do is monitor where a dealer advertises your lures elsewhere. That is a policy and monitoring function, and it sits outside the storefront.
Lure families, packs and price breaks
One product per lure, every color as a variant. Color and size become options on one product, with the third option kept for weight or pack. The theme is checked against your largest lure family during implementation, so a 160-variant product still loads and filters. Shopify lets you choose which variants are published or unpublished across sales channels and product catalogs, so a dealer-only color can sit in the dealer catalog and stay off the public site.
Pack rules enforced at checkout. Shopify B2B catalogs carry quantity rules. An increment rule sells a variant in sixes, a minimum rule sets the fewest that can be ordered, and quantity rules "are re-validated in checkout." Volume pricing adds up to 10 price breaks per product, and a price break quantity must be "a multiple of the increment," so a case price at 72 works with an inner pack of six. Assortment packs are set up as their own SKUs during implementation.
Prebook and fill-in on one account
Booking proposals as quotes. Uncap Quotes applies negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks automatically, sends exceptions to the right approver and keeps validity windows and a full revision history on every quote. A dealer's prebook can go out as a quote, be revised as the dealer adjusts colors, and turn straight into a Shopify order once it is approved. Booking windows, ship dates per booking and the rule that keeps fill-ins from drawing down booked stock are built during implementation from your ERP.
Terms that match the program. Shopify says "Payment terms define how long a company has to pay for an order." Net terms run from net 7 to net 90, and "All terms start from the day the order is placed." For a booking paid on a set date, Shopify offers a fixed date term on individual draft orders, with "Payment is due on a specific calendar date in either the past or future." How your booking dating maps to these terms is set during implementation.
Lead rules and drop ship as data
Lead tackle tagged, ship-to checked. Lead content and weight become product attributes, loaded from your item master. A rule built during implementation checks the ship-to state against the list your compliance team maintains, and stops a restricted SKU before checkout. Uncap does not give legal advice. The storefront applies the list you set.
Drop ship where it applies. Where your program ships a dealer's online order straight to the angler, routing those orders to the right warehouse and keeping them apart from the dealer's own stock orders is built during implementation.
Keep the ERP the system of record
One source of stock and price. Uncap Connect is the real-time data layer between Shopify and your ERP: inventory, orders, customers and pricing move the moment they change, not in an overnight batch. It starts at $8,000 for onboarding and then a flat $390 per month. Connect has native support for Shopify B2B companies, locations, catalogs, price lists and payment terms. Integration can also run as a managed iPaaS integration. For tackle brands on NetSuite, see the NetSuite integration; on Acumatica, the Acumatica integration.

Why Uncap
The line between product and build, in writing. Dealer accounts and reorders ship in Uncap Portal, booking quotes and approvals in Uncap Quotes, and ERP sync in Uncap Connect. The application form and quantity rules are Shopify B2B. Price hiding, assortment SKUs, booking windows, lead checks and drop ship routing are built during implementation from your data. The scope says which is which.
Credentials you can check. Uncap is a Shopify Platinum Partner.
Scoped before it is built. The Uncap Blueprint is a $7,500 fixed-price, 4-week Shopify migration plan. It covers solution architecture, a data migration taxonomy, an ERP integration audit, UX and flow prototyping and a replatforming risk register, and the fee is credited 1:1 toward implementation. For a tackle brand or distributor, that architecture work can cover the dealer application, the variant model for your largest lure family, the booking program and the ERP integration. You walk with everything you need to brief any agency or your in-house team.
This page sits under outdoor recreation equipment ecommerce, which covers serialized warranty, parts for discontinued models, dealer service authorization and freight. This page covers what tackle adds: dealer applications, lure variants, pack rules, prebook and state lead rules. Dealer authorization by territory, MAP enforcement beyond the storefront and team ordering are on sporting goods, and the bike shop version of a dealer program is on cycling parts. For ordering rules, see the glossary entry for case pack and the guide to order minimums, case packs and MOQs on Shopify. For the dealer side, see dealer and distributor portals for manufacturers. For the ERP side, see the Sage 100 integration, the Dynamics 365 Business Central integration or the full list of ERP integrations.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need a license to buy wholesale fishing tackle?
It depends on the wholesaler. One rod building and tackle distributor says its program is "intended for the sole use of licensed business professionals" and asks for documents such as "state resale certificates, business licenses, EIN, seller's permit, Certificate of Authority, etc." On a Shopify store, the application form can take a single file upload of 20 MB or less, and the company cannot order or see B2B pricing until you approve it.
How do fishing tackle manufacturers sell to dealers online?
Through a dealer account that sits behind an application. On Shopify B2B, available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Shopify Plus plans, a shop applies through a company account request form, your team approves it, and the dealer then sees its own catalog, pricing, quantity rules and payment terms. Uncap Portal adds multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, reorder lists, and NET terms, invoices and payments in the portal.
Can Shopify hide wholesale prices from the public?
Yes. Shopify says you can hide "products, prices, buy buttons, and other information from non-logged in customers using Liquid code or the theme editor, depending on the theme you use." Theme editor customizations for B2B context are available on the Advanced and Plus plans. A store gated to B2B customers only cannot use company account requests, so a store that takes dealer applications stays open and hides the prices instead.
How many lure colors and sizes can one Shopify product hold?
Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants per product and up to three options, so color, size and weight or pack can all sit on one product. The practical limit is usually the theme: Shopify notes that some third-party themes might not support more than 100 variants. Each variant can also carry one media item from the product's media, up to 250 per product.
Can dealers prebook next season's order on Shopify?
Yes, with a build. Shopify gives you the dealer account, payment terms and a fixed date term on individual draft orders. Uncap Quotes handles the booking proposal: negotiated pricing, approvals, validity windows, revision history and one-click conversion to a Shopify order. Booking windows, ship dates per booking and keeping fill-ins from drawing down booked stock are built during implementation.
Which states restrict the sale of lead fishing tackle?
Some states do, each with its own thresholds. Maine makes it unlawful to sell lead sinkers and lead jigs measuring 2.5 inches or less or weighing one ounce or less, and says its sale restrictions are statewide. New York has restricted the sale of lead fishing sinkers, including split shot, weighing one-half ounce or less. Check each state agency's own rules before you ship. On the storefront, a ship-to check against your compliance list is built during implementation.
Which ERPs does this connect to?
Uncap publishes thirteen ERP family integrations: Acumatica, Cin7, Epicor, Fishbowl, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Odoo, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP and Syspro. Integrations run through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. Connect has native support for Shopify B2B companies, locations, catalogs, price lists and payment terms, and the ERP stays the system of record. For a specific ERP, the Uncap team confirms fit directly.
What is the difference between this page and the outdoor recreation page?
The outdoor recreation page covers equipment brands whose hardest problems come after the sale: serialized warranty, parts for discontinued models, dealer service authorization and oversized freight. This page covers the tackle trade's selling problems: dealer applications, pricing behind sign-in and MAP, lure colors as variants, inner pack and case rules, prebook and fill-in orders, and state lead tackle rules.
