Sell Shingles From One Lot, With the Warranty System on the Order

The lot matters, not just the color name. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association says variations in the appearance of asphalt shingle roofs "are not uncommon," and that manufacturers "will often use surface granule blends to reduce the potential for color shading." Owens Corning's US installation instructions for its Duration Series shingles carry a caution not to mix material bearing different lot numbers, and point installers to the lot numbers located on the side of the bundle. The contractor ordered a color. If your branches hold that color in more than one lot, a storefront that only knows the color name can fill one roof from two of them.

The warranty depends on what else is on the order, and on who installs it. GAF's residential warranty comparison guide ties the steps up its warranty ladder to accessory count and, at higher tiers, contractor status. Its Roofing System Limited Warranty asks for Timberline shingles plus "At Least 3 Qualifying Accessory Products." Its Golden Pledge Limited Warranty asks for at least five, "Installed by GAF Master Elite Roofing Contractor." The qualifying accessories it names are ridge cap shingles, starter strip shingles, leak barrier, roof deck protection and attic ventilation. IKO's Cambridge application instructions set a condition of their own: "To ensure coverage under the High Wind Resistance Limited Warranty: Starter strip shingles must be used at all eaves and rakes." A field-shingle order without its accessories can leave the job short of the tier the contractor quoted.

Accessories are measured on the edges, not across the area. Field shingles come off the squares. Starter comes off the eaves and rakes, and caps come off the hips and ridges. IKO lists its Leading Edge Plus starter at "109 linear ft." of coverage per bundle, and its hip and ridge caps by linear feet per package. A roof with 240 feet of eaves and rakes needs three bundles of that starter, whatever its square count. Siding works the same way. The Vinyl Siding Institute's estimating worksheet takes siding in square feet, starter strip, J-channel and corner posts in linear feet, and nails in pounds.

The delivery address can be the roof. Epicor's roofing and siding page for BisTrack lists "crane-assisted scheduling" among its delivery tools. One Southern California distributor describes a fleet with "trucks with hydraulic conveyors," plus a boom truck that loads "rolls of single-ply TPO, PVC, or EPDM" and standing seam metal. IKO's application instructions carry a warning for the crew receiving the load: "Use caution when stacking bundles on sloped roofs." So a roofing delivery has questions a standard cart does not ask. Roof or ground? Which truck? Who is on site to take it?

Manufacturer rebates can sit under the contractor's price. The same Epicor page calls rebate tracking "especially valuable in roofing and siding, where manufacturer rebates are common and can significantly impact profitability," and describes BisTrack integrating expected rebates into product costs. A storefront that works out price on its own can drift from the margin your ERP thinks it made.

Gutters can sell as a color system. One gutter distributor's material list for a 5-inch K-style system in Royal Brown runs coil in two gauges, gutters, downspouts, elbows, miters, hangers, rivets and touch-up paint, most of it in Royal Brown. A contractor who orders coil in one color often needs the downspouts, elbows and miters to match, on the same ticket.

Lot-aware availability, so one roof ships from one lot. Epicor's roofing and siding page lists "batch and lot tracking for traceability" in BisTrack; whether your instance holds stock by lot at each branch is confirmed during scoping. Lot-level availability, so the storefront only promises a quantity a single lot can fill and the order records which lot it ships from, is built during implementation on inventory synced through Uncap Connect. When the crew comes back short, the top-up order can ask for the first order's lot, also built during implementation.

Warranty systems checked before the order is placed. The qualifying accessory list for each manufacturer's warranty tier, and a check that counts which qualifying categories are on the order, are built during implementation from the manufacturer's own warranty documents. The contractor's certification level is held on the company account, configured during implementation from the records your team keeps. The site shows the gap ("three of five qualifying accessory types on this order") and never registers or promises a warranty. Registration stays with the manufacturer's process.

Accessory quantities from the edges. The buyer enters eave, rake, hip and ridge lengths next to the squares. The site converts each length to bundles or packages using the manufacturer's stated coverage, built during implementation.

Rooftop and crane delivery through the same checkout. Uncap Portal lets a Shopify store "sell services and rentals alongside standard ecommerce products, through one checkout," so rooftop loading or a crane drop can be bought through the same checkout as the shingles. Capturing roof or ground, the requested date and drop notes at checkout, and passing them to dispatch in the ERP, is built during implementation. Contractor pricing, with rebates left where they belong. In Uncap Portal, roofing contractors, builders and dealers get real multi-user accounts with roles and permissions, and each buyer sees their assortment and pricing. The platform question, answered on architecture. The case for staying inside your ERP vendor's own commerce stack is integration risk. Epicor's own Automation Studio page for BisTrack lists Shopify and Shopify Plus among the top platforms for customer self-service ordering, with real-time pricing, availability and contract terms from BisTrack. Uncap's published products do not include lot-aware availability or warranty system checks; on Shopify they are built during implementation from your data. Integration runs through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration. On the Connect route there is no separate middleware, Connect syncs "customer-specific pricing, credit terms, and tax rules," and the ERP stays the system of record. Epicor's BisTrack API page says the API can "Push quotes and orders into BisTrack with payment details" and "Deliver personalized pricing using BisTrack's existing pricing tables." It names no specific protocol, so a discovery pass on your instance establishes the write path before anything is priced as a fixed scope.

Proof, labeled at its true distance. Uncap has not published a roofing or siding case study. The closest is ULE Group, which "offers a vast catalog of specialized construction products": a storefront built for over 250,000 SKUs on Shopify B2B, with real-time inventory and pricing through its Epicor ERP and cart-level convert-to-quote. It shows construction products at catalog scale on Shopify, not lot or warranty logic.

Lot-aware availability. The storefront promises only what a single lot can fill, records the lot on the order and asks for the same lot on a top-up, built during implementation on inventory synced through Uncap Connect.

Warranty system check. Qualifying accessory categories counted against each manufacturer's warranty tier before checkout, built during implementation from the manufacturer's published terms.

Certification on the account. The contractor's certification level held on the company account and used by the warranty check, configured during implementation.

Edge-based accessory quantities. Eave, rake, hip and ridge lengths converted to starter and cap bundles at the manufacturer's stated coverage, built during implementation.

Rooftop and crane delivery at checkout. Delivery sold as a service through one checkout with Uncap Portal; roof or ground, date and drop notes captured for dispatch, built during implementation.

Color-matched gutter lists. Coil, downspouts, elbows and miters offered together in the color the contractor picked, configured during implementation.

Contractor pricing and job quotes. Negotiated prices, tiers and volume breaks applied automatically through Uncap Quotes, with validity windows, exceptions sent to the right approver and one-click conversion to a Shopify order.

ERP sync, Connect or managed iPaaS. Pricing, inventory, customers and orders kept current between Shopify and the ERP, through an owned Uncap Connect app embedded in Shopify, or a managed iPaaS integration.

The line between product and build, in writing. Account pricing, quote approvals, validity windows, one-click order conversion, reorder lists and services sold through one checkout ship in Uncap Quotes and Uncap Portal. Lot-aware availability, warranty system checks, edge-based quantities and delivery capture are built during implementation from your lot, certification and dispatch records. The scope says which is which.

The second is the accessory list your main shingle manufacturer requires for its enhanced warranty tiers. Together they show how often one roof could ship from two lots, and how many orders leave a warranty tier on the table.
